Cannes, May XX, 2013: Filmmaker Mary McGuckian's EG Film Productions Limited, Lightstream Pictures and Saga Film producing the Eileen Gray movie, titled THE PRICE OF DESIRE signs Shannyn Sossamon in the lead role.
Following a lengthy casting process, Shannyn Sossamon has been chosen to play the lead role of Eileen Gray opposite Swiss actor Vincent Perez as her nemesis, Le Corbusier. Actress, philanthropist and multiple Grammy-winning singer/songwriter Alanis Morissette will play her lover, French singer and actress Marisa Damia.
THE PRICE OF DESIRE is an Irish-Belgian co-production between EG Film Productions Limited, A Pembridge Pictures and Lightstream Pictures co-venture, in association with Windmill Lane Pictures in Ireland and Saga Film in Belgium. Production services are provided by Sharkprod of Monaco and the film has the support of The Irish Film Board, Bord Scannan na HEireann, S481 investment, Film Fortis Fund and Audiovisual SGR, a Media Program with Europacorp, Entertainment One on board to release the film in France and Canada.
Production Designer Academy Award Nominated Anne Seibel is working with Emmanuelle Pucci to create a revisionary aesthetic inspired by the modernist architect and designer. Director of Photography, Stefan Von Bjorn will bring his technical mastery of digital cinematography to lense the picture and award-winning costume designer Peter O’Brien, (ex-head of design at couture House of Rochas), is designing the costumes. Julian Lennon is set to create an exhibition level of stills as unit photographer.
The film is shooting on location at Eileen Gray’s iconic E1027 Villa in Roquebrune Cap Martin and Vezelay in France and in studio in Belgium, where many of her Parisian interiors are being faithfully re-created with a contemporary twist. Post-production services are being provided by Windmill Lane Pictures in Dublin.
The story focuses on relationship between Eileen Gray (Sossamon) and the famous Swiss/French architect Le Corbusier (Perez) and how their relationship to each other as well as with the site on which she built the first modern house influenced and inspired a century of modern architecture.
“Eileen Gray’s evolution as an artist to recognition as a major influence on a century of minimalist and modernist design and architecture has resonance and relevance today. As an Irishman, it is a privilege to have worked with Mary over the past few years on the development and production of this prestigious picture”
says Lightstream Pictures producer Garrett Kelleher.
‘’The Belgian technical and production skill-set developed since the local financing initiatives increased investment in films is now attracting ambitious projects such as The Price of Desire to the country’’ adds Saga Film producer Jean-Jacques Neira.
“Eileen Gray’s right to be recognized as one of the most influential designers of the modern era may no longer be in dispute following the recent retrospective of her work at The Pompidou, but the insidious chauvinism to which her legacy was subjected in her lifetime is a salutary tale to all visual artists of the female gender” explains director Mary McGuckian.
The production has also launched a currently fashionable kickstarter campaign to support the completion of the restoration of her iconic E1027 Villa in Roquebrune Cap Martin, which will open to the public after the completion of principle photography.
